IR Strategy

One of the primary goals of an Investor Relations officer is to promote a fair market value by insuring that the stock fully reflects the value of the company including both absolute value (based on current fundamentals and cash generation), as well as intangibles and perceived future value. IR professionals are constantly looking to promote market awareness among both buy-side and sell side analysts. Communication must be credible and consistent. Often this requires frequent interactions in small groups and in some cases one-on-one meetings.

During these interactions, IR professionals are responsible for sharing insights into sector/industry dynamics, company specific growth drivers, profit metrics that could drive earnings growth in excess of revenue growth, capital strategy including how cash will be reinvested or returned to shareholders and comments around any events or catalysts that could cause volatility in a company's operations.

Not only targeting the right investor that is receptive and genuinely interested in a company's story is important, but also preparing in advance for these meetings to address any potential concerns including proactively highlighting trends and outliers.
